Sandra Cook Obituary

Sandra Kay Yeager Cook, 64, of Jackson, GA, left this earthly world for her heavenly home on March 15, 2024. She was born on July 2, 1959, in sunny Jacksonville, FL to James and Iris Yeager. She was their only daughter, and you know they are always the favorite child. Sorry Andy. Sandy graduated from Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville in 1977. Not the tallest person, she played basketball where she once scored two points for the opposing team. She was also a cheerleader, and one could easily imagine her doing that based on how she could tell a story. She told it with such vigor. Arms, legs, head. Everything moving to get her point across. You were out of breath just watching her. After graduating from Trinity, Sandy took a few courses in college but decided she was a working girl and got after it. She settled after a job or two with good ole Southern Bell. Starting there in May of 1980, she began her career in the telecommunications industry. In 1987, she married her husband, Kenny Cook, a member of the United States Navy stationed at Cecil Field, FL. They met in November of 1986 and were married in less than three months on the cheesiest day of the year, Valentines Day, 1987. They were going to secretly go to South Georgia to marry, but Sandy insisted she had to tell her mother that Friday night. Kenny agreed and they threw a wedding together overnight and were married the next morning, Saturday, at the church Sandy had attended for years thereby beginning 37 years of "for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part…" In Georgia, her home for 31 years, she finished her career with Bellsouth, and she and Kenny opened several roller-skating rinks where she mentored the local kids and of course was the skate boss. She attended Abundant Life Assembly of God in Jackson where she also enthusiastically cared for kids. Sandy secretly always wanted to be in the choir, and although she was very good at many things, she was not the best at carrying a tune. But that didn’t keep her from singing her heart out in the congregation. Sandy loved a good movie, dancing around and acting silly, as well as NASCAR. Can you say Dale Jr.? She, along with Kenny, loved the lake and beach life. Together they spent countless hours in the sun on Jackson Lake in Georgia where their home is, and in 2020 were able to live out their dream in the Saint Petersburg, FL area on a yacht in a local marina. Treasure Island was a home away from home during Sandy’s long illness. She was so very fortunate to run into some of the best people in the boating community where they took her under their wings and loved and cared for her like she was their own. Sandy was a loving and caring mom to her three children: Jennifer, Justin, and Tyler. She set an impeccable example and lived a life in front of them that any mother could follow. Through them she has five incredible grandchildren: Cayden, Rory, Jocelyn, Arie, and Andi. She is preceded in heaven by both sets of grandparents, her dad and mom, along with an infant brother, Bruce. She leaves behind a brother, Andy Yeager, a sister-in-law, Kelly, her husband Kenny, and her kids and grands. A celebration of Sandy’s beautiful life will be held in Jackson, GA, at Haisten Funeral Home Friday, March 22nd from 11am to 1pm. An additional celebration will be held in her hometown of Jacksonville, FL, at Evangel Temple on Monday, March 25th at 6pm.
