Mr. Robert Franklin (Bobby) Mackey, Sr., age 83 passed away at the Dream Catchers Assisted Living Community, Thursday afternoon, February 22, 2024, after a period of declining health. He was born Thursday, July 4, 1940, in the Towaliga Community of Butts County to the late Robert Wellington Mackey and Ruby Estell Biles Mackey. He owned and operated the Mason Jar Restaurant along with his late wife Peggie for 27 years before his retirement. He served as Mayor of the City of Jackson from January 1973 until December 1974 and he was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Jackson for 67 years.
Bobby had been married to the late Peggie Ann Moore Mackey for 55 years, when she passed away in October 2013. He leaves behind, three daughters and sons-in-law, Lindy and Eddie Ruark of Milledgeville, GA, Kay and Barry Fincher of Jackson, GA, Sally and Todd Jones of Jackson, GA and a son, Robbie Mackey of Miami, FL; grandchildren, Annie Cawthon, Hannah Brown, Walter Ruark, Bethany Hughes, Hannah Fincher, BJ Fincher, Rachel Kirkland, Samantha Kirkland, Sophia Jones, Todd Jones, Jr., Ali Jones, Josh Jones and Will Jones, sister and brother-in-law; Paula Jean Mackey and Dan Pinholster,10 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services for Mr. Robert Franklin (Bobby) Mackey, Sr., will be Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 2:00PM in the First Baptist Church of Jackson. Mr. Rudy Mangham, Mr. Loy Hutcheson and Mr. Lance Richards will officiate. The Family will receive friends for one hour immediately prior to the service, at the Church.
