Benjamin (Ben) Johnson IV Obituary

Benjamin Franklin Johnson IV, known to family and friends as Ben, age 63, passed away on May 17, 2026, in New Mexico.
Ben was a man whose life was marked by music, hard work and devotion to the Lord and his Family, those qualities were evident in the way he carried himself and in the way he treated others. He had a warm presence and a personality that left a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Ben graduated from Redan High School in the class of 1980 and later attended DeKalb Jr. College. He built a strong work ethic throughout his life and was employed most recently as a truck driver with ALP Cargo. In addition to his career on the road, he was a professional musician, and music was truly the center of his life. One of his cherished memories was the 8 years when he and his Dad played at Crossroads in Stone Mountain. Whether performing, listening, or simply sharing a favorite song, he found joy and meaning in music in a way that touched those around him. He had a way of making people feel welcome, and his life was enriched by the relationships he built over the years.

He also valued fellowship and service and was a long-term member of the Masons. His commitment to that organization reflected the respect he had for tradition, friendship, and community. Ben enjoyed deep sea fishing as well, and he appreciated the peace and excitement that came with time spent on the water. These interests were part of what made him such a well-rounded and memorable man.
Ben is survived by his wife of 31 years who he loved dearly, Jan Johnson. He is also survived by his son, B. J. Johnson V of Florida; his daughters, Jessica Chetvertnilch of South Carolina, Jennifer Johnson of Blairsville, and Amy & Doug Bailey and family of Forsyth; his parents: Frances Evlyn Johnson & Benjamin Franklin Johnson III along with six grandchildren who brought him great joy. He is further survived by his brother, Jon Conrad Johnson of Toccoa; his sister, Sharon Zbikowski of Toccoa; and many nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.

A service celebrating Ben’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Those who knew Ben will remember his love of music, his steady presence, and the kindness he extended so freely. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
