Betty Cawthon Obituary

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Lester Peek Cawthon, age 94, of Jackson, GA passed away Thursday morning, June 15, 2017 at the residence of her son, Lester, with her loving family at her side. She was born November 26, 1922 in Macon, GA daughter of the late Ousley and Mary Elizabeth Yates Lester. She was a graduate of Morven High School in Nashville, GA in June, 1940 and the Georgia – Alabama Business College in Macon, GA. Betty was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a Boy Scout Leader of Troop 80 in Jackson. She was a former substitute teacher in the Butts County School System. She was employed by the KYM Company in Jackson for over 40 years and had been a dedicated member of the Jackson First Baptist Church since 1950. She had been married to Thomas Franklin Peek, Sr. until his death and later married Lewis “Bear” Cawthon who passed away several years ago.

Survivors include her children, Becky Smith (Jack) of Roberta, GA Barbara Kilgo, Frank Peek (Pat), and Lester Peek (Robin); Step Children, Pam Cook, Becky Colwell, Rita Kinney and Harold Cawthon, Gail Miller; sisters, Ellie Davis and Jackie Bentley, Nashville, GA, Jean Moore, Lake Park, GA., nine Granddaughters, 21 Great Grandchildren, One great great grandson. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, David Kilgo.

Funeral services for Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Peek Cawthon will be held Sunday, June 18, 2017 at 2:00PM at the First Baptist Church in Jackson. Rev. Keith Joseph will officiate with interment in the Jackson City Cemetery. Those desiring may make a memorial donation to the building fund of the First Baptist Church or the Sacred Journey Hospice. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6 - 8PM.
