David Fletcher Obituary
David Charles Fletcher, 48, of Jackson, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2017, at his home. David was a lifelong fan of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, the Jackson Red Devils, the Atlanta Falcons, and the Atlanta Braves. David tolerated the Georgia Bulldogs for his wife and daughter.
David and his wife, Joni, were high school sweethearts and proud members of the JHS Class of 1987. The couple celebrated twenty-five years of marriage this summer. He was a devoted father to his three children, who were, in his eyes, his life's greatest accomplishments.
He was the first baseman of Jackson's South Georgia Champion baseball team in 1987.
David was a 1991 graduate of West Georgia College and was a proud member and officer of the Chi Phi Fraternity.
David's chosen profession was teaching and coaching at Jones County High School, Upson-Lee High School and Jackson High School. Many of his happiest days were spent coaching at Red Devil Hill and Wallace Field. His players and students held a special place in his heart.
David had more friends--and more stories--than most people could ever hope. He put a smile on everyone's face and never met a stranger.
He was a member of Jackson United Methodist Church.
David loved his family and his friends more than life itself. He is survived by his wife, Joni; parents, Bennie and Marilyn Fletcher; brother Don (Julie); children Griffin, Brett, and Haley; mother-in-law Joanne James; sister-in-law Jennifer James; brother-in-law Josh James (Natalie); nephews Tristan Fletcher, Ethan Fletcher, Ryan James and Blaine Hosea; and nieces Audrey James and Miranda Hosea; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A funeral service for David will be held Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at 1:00 PM at the Jackson United Methodist Church. Rev. Chris Shurtz will officiate. The family will receive friends at Haisten Funeral Home Tuesday from 6-8 PM and Wednesday from noon until 1:00 PM at Jackson United Methodist Church. A private interment will be at the Jackson City Cemetery.
