Denise Fears Hemmann, a respected attorney and cherished member of the Jackson community, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on January 23, 1951, in Jackson, Denise lived a life marked by dedication to her family, her career, and her many passions.
Denise's early years were spent in the nurturing care of her parents, the late Dan Fears, Sr. and Mildred Andrews Fears. She grew up surrounded by love and support from her siblings, Dan Fears, Jr. and his wife Linda, Bill Fears and his wife Joyce, and her sister Deborah Sanford. Denise's formative years in Jackson set the foundation for a lifetime of achievement and service.
A proud graduate of Jackson High School, Denise's thirst for knowledge and commitment to excellence led her to Emory University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree. Her passion for justice and advocacy then led her to the Atlanta School of Law, where she obtained her Law Degree. Returning to her hometown, Denise practiced law in Jackson for many years, earning the respect of her colleagues and the community she served.
Throughout her career, Denise was known not only for her sharp legal mind but also for her generous spirit. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson.
Denise's interests extended beyond her professional life. She was an avid gardener, finding joy in the blooms that heralded the arrival of spring, her favorite time of the year. Her garden was a source of solace and inspiration, reflecting the beauty and care she brought to every aspect of her life.
Denise's legacy is carried on by her loving family. She is survived by her son, Paul (PJ) Hemmann of Jackson, and her daughter, Kathryn Hemmann (Ori Tavor) of Philadelphia. Her brothers, Dan and Bill, along with their wives Linda and Joyce, her sister Deborah and their families.
While Denise's presence will be deeply missed, her impact on those she touched will endure. She gave to many causes throughout the years, always striving to make the world a better place. Her commitment to justice, her unwavering faith, and her love for her family and community will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
