Allen Dennis (Denny) O’Neal, age 74, of Jackson, GA passed away Wednesday evening, January 6, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Atlanta, GA March 11, 1941 son of the late James Winfred O’Neal, Sr. and Florrie Allen O’Neal. When Denny was young he was on television with the “Stars of Tomorrow”. He was a graduate of the old GMA in College Park. Denny was a member of the Georgia National Guard. He was a long time faithful member of the Jackson United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir for over 20 years. He was very active in sports. He announced the football games for Jackson High School for many years. He was a coach for the old VanDeventer Youth Center for many years and was instrumental in turning over the sports from VanDeventer to the Butts County Recreation Department. He was a volunteer fireman for over 20 years. Denny was a former member and Past President of the Jackson Kiwanis Club. He was a former detective with the Jackson Police Department and was a former Mason. He was associated with the Jackson National Bank and the C & S Bank of Jackson for 14 years, serving as Vice President. Denny was an owner and co-owner of several businesses throughout the years and was employed by the State Correctional Department Training Center for several years. Among his many hobbies were golf and scuba diving. He was a former part time employee of Haisten Funeral Home in Jackson. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Smith O’Neal, sons, James Gregory (Greg) O’Neal. Thomas Byrd (T. Byrd) and Johana O’Neal and Matthew Allen (Matt) and Chrissy O’Neal; five grandchildren, Jackson, Gracen, Eden, Jayden and Kaysan O’Neal, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Brothers, Jim O’Neal, Jr. and John Allen O’Neal preceded him in death. A Memorial Service for Denny O’Neal will be Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 3:00PM at the Jackson United Methodist Church. Dr. Phil DeMore and Rev. Chris Shurtz will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Fellowship Hall of the church from 1:00 – 3:00PM. Those desiring may make a memorial donation to the Jackson United Methodist Church or St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis, TN.
