Gerald Kersey, age 80, passed away at WellStar West Georgia Hospice in LaGrange, GA Tuesday afternoon, June 14, 2022. He was born in Covington, GA to the late Winfred Roger and Robbie Hargrove Kersey on Thursday April 30, 1942. Gerald loved playing the guitar and gardening. He read the Bible from front to back 4 times. He is affectionately remembered as Coach Kersey due to coaching Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball for many years. He was a graduate of Jackson High School and a member of Worthville Baptist Church. Gerald also served as a Butts County Commissioner for 11 years. But he is best known as “The Game Warden”, he served Butts County and surrounding counties in that position for 30 years.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 41 years; Sandra Kersey, son, Joe Kersey, son & daughter-in-law; Drew & Jennifer Kersey, daughters & sons in law; Robbie & Todd Williams, all of Jackson, Lisa & Dave Stewart of Covington and his sister; Mary Jo Evans and 12 Grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Along with his parents Gerald is preceded in death by his son; Tim Kersey, and brother; Wayne Kersey.
Funeral Services for Gerald Kersey will be held Friday, June 17, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Worthville Baptist Church, Dr. Benny Tate and Rev. Joel Brown will officiate. Burial will follow the Service in the Worthville Baptist Church Cemetery. The Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Thursday evening June 16, 2022 from 6:00 until 8:00.
