Glen Whitaker Obituary

Glen Lamar Whitaker of Jenkinsburg, GA, age 67, passed away early Monday, June 6, 2016 at the Sacred Journey Hospice in McDonough. Lamar was born in Jenkinsburg February 19, 1949 son of the late Glenn J. and Eula Mae Johnson Whitaker. He was a 1968 graduate of Jackson High School and served four years in the United States Air Force. Lamar was employed by the Overnite Transportation Company for over 35 years, starting as a mechanic and retiring as the Manager of the Shops. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson. Lamar enjoyed being with his family. He was a “fixer” and enjoyed trying to repair anything. He enjoyed carpentry, football, baseball and NASCAR.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ridley Whitaker, daughters, Glenda and Tim Aukerman and Sherry Whitaker, grandchildren, Dillon Whitaker, Justin Akins and Ashlee Aukerman, brothers and sisters, Mack and Kathy Whitaker, Carl and Dorothy Whitaker, Patsy and Bryan Maddox and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe Ricky Whitaker and Michael Whitaker and a sister, Ruby Whitaker Faucett.

Funeral services for Glen Lamar Whitaker will be Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Rev. Keith Joseph will officiate with interment in the Jenkinsburg City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 – 8 PM and at other times at their residence, 393 England Chapel Road near Jenkinsburg.
