Gustavo Adolfo Escalera

Dr Gustavo Adolfo Escalera, age 87 passed away Sunday March 20, 2022 at Piedmont Henry Hospital. Dr. Escalera was the only child of the late Emilio and Providencia Escalera, born on Monday November 19, 1934 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was a graduate of The University of Puerto Rico and The Puerto Rico School of Medicine. Dr Escalera specialized in general surgery to provide surgical care to patients with a variety of needs, he was Founder and C.E.O. of Surgery South in Stockbridge before his retirement. Dr Escalera was a proud veteran of the US Army and the National Guard serving his Country for 37 years and retiring at the rank of Brigadier General. During his military career he served as the Commander of MASH unit 113. During Desert Storm he served in Military Hospitals in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. He was also a former Surgeon General for the state of Georgia.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter; Lisa Escalera who passed away in June of 1980. He is survived by his wife; Angela Escalera, two sons; Gus Escalera of Bradenton Fl., Emile Escalera of Sandy Springs two daughters; Angela Escalera Norsworthy of Jackson and Ana Maria Escalera Hilton of Flovilla along with five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Memorial Services for Dr Gustavo Adolfo Escalera will be conducted Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at 2 PM at the St. Mary’s Mother of God Catholic Church, Father Jose will officiate. Inurnment will follow the Service in the Jackson City Cemetery. Friends may visit with the Family Tuesday March 22, 2022 at the Funeral Home from 6 PM - 8 PM.
