Mrs. Helen Neattie Bledsoe Forgay, age 78 of Forsyth, suddenly passed away Monday morning September 8, 2025, at her residence. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on Thursday November 7, 1946, to the late Elder Carl M. Bledsoe & Ida Dawson Bledsoe.
Helen was a member of the Coral Gables Sr. High School class of 1966 in Coral Gables, FL. During her high school years, she enjoyed singing soprano in the school’s Concert Choir, swimming at the local beaches, and playing tennis with friends from school.
When Helen was 13 years old, she professed her love for Jesus Christ and was baptized by immersion in the Miami Primitive Baptist Church, where she was an active member of their Youth Group. Later, she moved her membership to the South Miami Primitive Baptist Church, where her father, Elder Carl M. Bledsoe, was pastor.
Helen married Richard Carl Forgay and lived in Lithonia, Georgia, where their only daughter, Sarah Marie, was born and raised. Later, their family moved to Forsyth, Georgia, where she was a member of the Jackson Presbyterian Church. Helen’s love and dedication to Native American culture led her to become an authority on Indian/Native American Culture, lore, and artifacts, about which she often gave special demonstrations in local schools and libraries. Helen was employed by the Monroe County Board of Education as a substitute teacher. Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her brother, Randolph W. Bledsoe.
Mrs. Forgay is survived by her husband of 45 years, Richard Carl Forgay, her daughter Sarah Marie (Collin) of Forsyth, sister Eva-Marie Gamble (Bruce) of Lakeland, FL, two sisters-in-law: Dianne Forgay Smith and Judy Brothers, six nephews, Matthew Pitney, Carl Pitney, Stephen Pitney, Kenneth Pitney Randy Pitney, and David Bledsoe, and a niece Julienne Gamble, as well as many dear cousins.
A Funeral service for Mrs. Helen Neattie Bledsoe Forgay will be conducted Saturday September 13, 2025, at 1:00PM at the Olive Grove (Rock Pond) Primitive Baptist Church, 2349 Bartow Gibson Hwy., Iron City, GA, 39858, with Visitation beginning beforehand at noon. Burial will follow the Service in the Church Cemetery. Elder Matthew Pitney will officiate.
