Helen McMichael Ham, age 97, and lifelong resident of Jackson passed away on Friday, August 12, 2016, at Dogwood Forest Assisted Living in Stockbridge.
She was born in Butts County on January 21, 1919 to Joseph E. McMichael and Virgie M. McMichael, and was one of 11 children. She was a graduate of Butts County High School and attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. She worked at the Atlanta Army Depot for 9 years and then on to a 25 year career at Central Georgia EMC.
Mrs. Ham was a long time member of the Jackson United Methodist Church where she served on numerous committees, including the Official Board. She is survived by one sister, Gwendolyn Morris, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by 9 siblings and her husband, V.H. (Hap) Ham, a prominent local businessman and former 2 term Butts County sheriff.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ham will be held Friday, August 19, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home in Jackson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Jackson City Cemetery.
