James Abbott Obituary

James Landrell Abbott, age 87, of the Stark Community in Jackson, died Saturday, November 5th, 2016, in Griffin, Georgia, at Eternal Hope Hospice. Son of Charlie George Abbott and Ruby Lerleen Medlock Abbott, James was born in Lithonia, Georgia, on February 27, 1929. He was best known to the family and friends as “Abbott”, Corky, or Sonny, and was an avid fisherman and hunter who shared his passion and skills with his sons and grandsons.

James attended school in Georgia and graduated from high school in Hueytown, Alabama before joining the U. S. Air Force. His military endeavors took him through extensive schooling and training, and upon his retirement in 1975, he earned the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, the highest non-commissioned post to be attained. He faithfully served his country for 27 years with tours of duty in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam, followed by stations to Okinawa and Panama, as well as numerous duty posts throughout the United States.

James is survived by his wife of 65 years, Anna Kathryn Wooten Abbott; sons Robert Ricky and Alma Abbott and Maj. Charles Roger and Sue Abbott; his grandchildren Gregory Nicholas and Michelle Garlin, Isaac Clayton Abbott and Sara, AmberlyLauren and Erich Peschel, Austin Taylor and Kyndal Abbott; great grandchildren, Nicholas Michael Garlin, Braelynn Collins, Blakely Collins Abbigail Garlin, Andrea Schoedel; and several cousins. Mr. Abbott was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Kevin Landrell Abbott, who died earlier this year.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 11, 2016 at 2pm, in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home in Jackson, GA with interment to follow at Philadelphia Cemetery, 6910 Goddard Rd. in Lithonia, GA. with Military Honors. Haisten Funeral Home of Jackson is in charge of arrangements for James Landrell Abbott.
