Mr. James Winzer (Wimp) Collier, age 90, peacefully passed away early Wednesday morning, March 5, 2025, at his residence, following a period of declining health. Wimp was born Monday, July 30, 1934, in Decatur to the late Bertha Griswell & Claude W. Collier. After graduating Southwest Dekalb High School, he served a tour in the United Stated Navy, then began a 34-year career as an installer and repairman with Southern Bell and AT&T. After retirement he started another job that he truly loved in maintenance with the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Wimp was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church and the Jackson Christian Church which he was proud to help build. When he wasn’t working, he could be found hunting or fishing or at the baseball field.
Along with his parents, Mr. Collier is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Betty Collier. His brother; Ray Collier and his sister; Faye Collier his grandson; Johnathon Morgan. He is survived by his children; Bobby & Demetrius Collier, Betsy & Perry Crowder, grandchildren; Amber & Josh Oberst, Austin & Kyle Collier, Casey & Beth Crowder, Corey & Laney Crowder, great-grandchildren; Madelynn Oberst, Bentley Oberst, Nolan Oberst, Paislee Collier, Beau Collier, Justin Crowder, Courtlyn Crowder, Walker Crowder and Carolina Crowder, a sister-in law; Dottie Collier, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. James Winzer (Wimp) Collier will be conducted Friday, March 7, 2025, at 3 PM in the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, Mr. Rudy Mangham will officiate. Interment will follow the Service in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. The Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home immediately prior to the Service beginning at 1 PM.
