James Jones Obituary

James Elwood “El” Jones, age 91, of Highway 16 E, Jackson, GA passed away Sunday morning, February 21, 2016. He was born April 20, 1924 in Jackson, GA son of the late Charles Herbert Jones and Mattie Kate Knight Jones. El was retired from Robins Air Force Base in 1973 after over 25 years of service. He was a veteran of WWII serving as a MP in the United States Army. He won the Bronze Star Medal in Germany. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Congregational Methodist Church and had been a member of the St. Johns Lodge # 45 Masonic Lodge. He had been a Mason for over 50 years. El enjoyed bird hunting and fishing in the past and enjoyed staying at their cottage on Lake Sinclair. He was a member of the VFW.

Survivors include his wife of over 69 years, Lurlene James Jones, daughter and son-in-law, Jan and George Washington, daughter-in-law, Connie Jones, Their son, Bobby Jones and grandson, Chad Jones both passed away in 2010. El had other grandsons, Brandon Washington, Brian Carver and a great grandson, Hunter Jones, great granddaughter, McKenzie Washington and other great grandchildren, Camden Carver and Casten Carver, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for James Elwood “El” Jones will be Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at 2:00PM in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Rev Ricky Stubbs will officiate with interment in the Pepperton Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6-8PM. Those desiring may send a memorial contribution to the Pleasant Grove Congregational Methodist Church.
