Janet Delee Strain Ivey, passed away on November 22, 2023, at the Sacred Journey Hospice in McDonough. Janet was born in Cumberland, MD to Frank and Alice Smith on November 5, 1936.
Janet is preceded in death by her Mom, Alice Boyer Smith, Dad, Frank Smith, her Brother John "Jack" Smith and husband Holmes "Buzzy" Strain. She is survived by her Daughters Joy Ann Ross and Donna Lea Gill and long-time partner Bobby Ivey and his son Joel Clint Ivey as well as many grandkids and great grandkids.
Janet had a rough childhood but always made the best of things and never held a grudge.
For her children's early years, she was a stay-at-home mom and as they got older, she had a wide variety of varying jobs and worked hard to make sure she provided for her kids above anything else.
She really enjoyed giving back and volunteering both with her kids' school and throughout the community. She volunteered as a room mother, for the PTA, girl scouts, at hospice, food banks, AARP, senior centers and more.
She would travel with her husband Buzzy and later would travel cross-country to visit her Daughters and grandchildren. Each of her grandkids remembers her for something different be it strawberry picking, feeding ducks, hand-held pies, arts and crafts, fishing and others.
Janet spent the last 27 years of her life living with her long-time partner Bob and adopted his family as her own; increasing the number of people who were able to experience the unconditional love she was happy to give.
Janet was a loving, giving, generous person who could talk with just about anyone. She would hold full conversations with complete strangers, and especially like to speak with those who had babies who she absolutely adored. She was a wonderful mom, wife, grandmother and friend and will be missed by all those who had the opportunity to love her.
