Mr. John Lawrence Hodges, Sr. (Larry) passed away Wednesday morning, October 9, 2024, at his residence after a brief illness. Larry was a lifelong resident of Jackson born Thursday, November 11, 1943, to Brac Kiby Hodges, Jr. and Ida Thaxton Hodges, (both deceased). He had retired from the City of Jackson after 45 years of employment in the Water Department and formerly in the Gas Department and had also worked at the Butts County Recreation Department for over 10 years. Larry was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church and had proudly served 6 years in the Georgia Army National Guard. When he was not working, he could be found gardening, shooting or spending time with his grandsons.
Larry is survived by his wife of 55 years Judy Bell Hodges, son & daughter in law John and Jessi Hodges and his pride and joy, grandsons Anderson and Colin Hodges. Additional loved ones sister-in-law, Rena "Fran" Hodges, niece Hallie Rodriguez (Jose), nephew Ryan (Alyi), great nieces Lilly, June, Ivy and Kylie, as well as in-laws Jerome Singletary (Alice deceased), David Bell (Rhonda) Tracy Serrero (Alan) plus all of his beloved Jackson friends. Larry was preceded in death by his brother, Mike Hodges, mother-in-law Alice Singletary, brother-in-law Bruce Bell (Pauline) and sister-in-law Linda Singletary.
Funeral Services for Mr. John Lawrence Hodges, Sr. will be conducted Friday, October 11, 2024, at 2 PM in the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, Pastor Chip Garrison will officiate. Interment will follow in the Jackson City Cemetery. The Family will receive friends immediately prior to the Service beginning at 1 PM.
