Larry Sims Mathis, age 68, of the Jackson Lake community, passed away early Friday morning, May 27, 2016. Larry was born in Monroe, GA March 26, 1948 son of the late Bennie Frank Mathis and Margaret Ann Maffett Mathis who survives. He attended school at Johnson Institute in Monroe and graduated from Jackson High School in 1966. He attended Gordon Military College in Barnesville and Griffin Tech. Larry was a veteran, serving in the United States Army in Viet Nam. He was a self -employed carpenter and had been employed by the Atlanta Stove Works. Larry was an entrepreneur who owned Mathis Brothers Bar-b-que for 25 years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Angeline Jarrell Mathis, daughter and son-in-law, Vanessa Kimbell Potts and Keven Potts, grandchildren, Logan Potts, Madalyn Potts and Ansley Potts, his mother, Margaret Ann Maffett Mathis, sister, Carol Mathis Reeves, brother and sister-in-law, David and Shirley Mathis, nieces and nephews, Michelle and Michael Batchelor, D. J. Mathis, Misty and Steven Ledford and several great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services for Larry Sims Mathis will be Sunday, May 29, 2016 at 2:00PM in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Rudy Mangham will officiate. Interment will be in the Foster-Jester-Huddleston Cemetery in Butts County with Military Honors.
