Lucian Gilbert, 84, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022 at his home in Monticello, Georgia. Lu was born December 16, 1937 to the late Hugh and Agnes Gilbert in Cranberry Creek, N.Y. He graduated from Mayfield High School in 1955 and earned his Mechanical Engineering degree from General Motors Institute in Michigan. Lu raised his family in Ontario/Sodus, NY and enjoyed many summers at Keuka Lake and in the Thousand Islands before retiring to Georgia.
Lu will be forever remembered as a hardworking man who was always actively involved in a variety of businesses and projects. Lu was funny and spirited and could be counted on to tell you what he thought at all times. He showed his love for family through his involvement and encouragement in their lives, and his willingness to help no matter what. One thing he often said was, “Tell me why you can, not why you can’t.” Anyone who knew Lu knew he was passionate about the stock market, travel, and sharing his worldly adventures. He enjoyed the spiciest of foods and was known to mix anything in the fridge into his special goulash! Lu was always up for a good time and one to be admired on the dance floor. He will be greatly missed by all.
Lu is survived by his sons, Jeff (Eileen) Gilbert, Kevin (Kim) Gilbert, Scot (Louise) Gilbert and Rick (Laurie) Gilbert; grandchildren, Claire Gilbert, Miranda Alfrey, Maggie Gilbert, Kendra Gilbert, Hunter Gilbert, Lea Gilbert, Sky Gilbert, Olivia Gilbert, and Alec Gilbert and his sisters Sylvia Parker and Sue (Rick) Hall, nephew Eric(Jen) Hall. Lu is also survived by his former spouse of many years and the mother of his children, Donna Herington Gilbert.
A private memorial will be held at a later date.
