Margaret Jane Greenwood, age 78, of Jackson peacefully passed away in her sleep at Autumn Village Wednesday February 17, 2021. She was born Sunday June 21, 1942 in Jackson to the late Marshall and Bertha Jefferies Cleveland, she was affectionately known as “Maggie” to her many friends and family. She was the wife of the late Thurman Greenwood, who passed away in July of 1998.
Maggie was employed in the grocery industry, her career began many years ago at the Kwik Curb and Greyhound Bus Stop then Franks Self Service at the same time working days at Cooks Lunchroom, later working at Allen’s Hometown Grocery for several years, then she was employed at Red & White for about ten years, she then worked at Giant Mart for eleven years. She then went to work at Schriver and Co. based in Tennessee as a Merchandiser. After suffering injuries in an automobile accident and a year of therapy she returned to the grocery industry until the death of her husband in 1998, it was then that she began to work for Plantation Restaurant and remained there until her retirement.
Maggie was a member of the Jackson High School Class of 1960 she was also a member of The First Baptist Church of Jackson, but attended Towaliga Baptist Church. In the springtime of her life she was very active in the J.H.S. Band Boosters, Sylvan Grove Pink Ladies. Maggie loved gardening, reading, traveling, spending time with family especially her grandchildren.
Maggie is survived by her children; Larry & Beth Duffey, Terry & Sharon Duffey, Tina & Doug Frye, grandchildren; Nathan & Gina Duffey, Joshua & Margaret Duffey, Kasey & Jeff Schuier, Travis Alford, Ryan Duffey, Dallas Duffey, Stephen & Sharon Garner, and Kevin Garner, great grandchildren; Kylie Grace Garner, Colton Garner, Carsen Garner and Bentlee Alford, brother; Tommy Cleveland, sisters & brothers in law; Sarah & Jimmy English, Dorothy & Bud Cronan, Bonnie & Jimmy Cook and Martha Miller. In addition to her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by her brother Jerrell Cleveland and her sister Carol Anderson.
Maggie wanted everyone to know that she had a great life, despite her humble beginnings and that she was saved and she is going to Heaven.
Funeral services for Margaret Jane Greenwood will be Sunday February 21, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, Mr. Rudy Mangham will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum, at the Jackson City Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Service. The family respectfully request that those in attendance observe social distancing and wear mask in accordance with C.D.C. guidelines.
