Marilyn Raynor Obituary

Marilyn Barber Raynor passed away June 10th, 2019 at the age of 86. Mrs. Raynor was born in Cottondale, FL to the late Harvey Christopher and Vesta Woods Barber. She was a resident of Jackson, Georgia and a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Jackson GA.

Marilyn graduated from Cottondale High School and Chipola College. She obtained her Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Stetson University and began her teaching career in Orlando, FL in 1953. Marilyn taught Kindergarten through Third Grade at Indian Springs Academy and Jackson Primary School in Jackson, Georgia. Mrs. Raynor was an advocate for education and was highly respected for her teaching ability. She loved children and teaching and this quote describes her loving and caring spirit.

Now, what really makes a teacher is love for the human child; for it is love that transforms the social duty of the educator into the higher consciousness of a mission.

Mrs. Raynor is predeceased by her brothers, Charles Barber and HC Barber along with her sister, Evelyn Barber Register.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Durwood (Ray) Raynor. Children: Bev Raynor of Beaufort, SC and Jeff Raynor (Karen) of Jacksonville, FL. She was Nana to Matthew Beck (Sumedha) of CA, Joshua Raynor (Rachel) of GA, Sarah Raynor and Jacob Raynor of FL. She is survived by her two  sisters, Janice Barber Christmas of FL and Caroline Barber Steele of VA along with a host of extended family.

Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church in Jackson, Georgia on June 14th, 2019 from 1-1:45PM.

A Celebration of Marilyn’s Life will be held on June 14, 2019 at 2pm at First Baptist Church in Jackson, Georgia with Pastor Cary Snelling officiating. Graveside will be at Jackson City Cemetery.
