Mrs. Mertice Irene Etheridge Young, age 93 and a lifelong resident of Jackson, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the Westbury Center of Jackson for Nursing and Healing, where she had resided for the last few months. She was born in Dodge County, GA to the late Lonnie & Zora Mae Etheridge on Monday, September 7, 1931, and was a member of the Jackson High School Class of 1948. Mrs. Young had been employed for over 40 years as a seamstress at the Kym Co. when the plant closed its doors for the final time.
Survivors include her son & daughter-in-law, Kevin & Tammy Young of Jackson, daughter & son-in-law, Linda and Jerry Hester of St. Simons Island, grandchildren; Justin Hester, Amanda Cothran, Amber Cook and Ashley Padilla, great grandchildren, Tessa Cothran, Ben Hester, Will Cothran, Evan Hester and Miriam Cook, and one sister and brother-in-law, Shirley & Preston Bridges. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Red” Young, her daughter & son-in-law, Dianne and Neal Allen, and her grandson, Jason Allen along with two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mertice Etheridge Young will be Saturday, May 31,2025, at 3 PM in the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home in Jackson. Pastor Keith Bridges will officiate. A private Family interment will be held in the Jenkinsburg City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home 1 hour immediately prior to the Service.
