Mrs. Mildred Laverne McMichael Welch, age 91, passed away at Autumn Village Assisted Living Center Tuesday morning, September 17, 2024, where she had resided for the last two years. Mrs. Welch was born in Harlem, GA on Thursday September 29, 1932, to the late Nellie Jo Anderson & Elton L. McMichael, Sr. She was a member the of Harlem High School class of 1948. After high school she attended secretarial school where she learned the skills for her 1st job at Lucky's Pecan Co in Harlem. Mrs. Welch had retired from the Butts County School system after 23 years of service as a lunchroom cashier. She loved her co-workers and all the children that she got to watch grow up. She enjoyed camping, going to the beach and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. While enjoying their camping experiences she and her late husband became Camp Host at various State Parks across Georgia. She loved her fur babies, Buddy, Bandit and Macie. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson where she served as nursery coordinator for 20+ years. Mildred married Kenneth Welch, the love of her life and her cowboy from Texas on August 18, 1950. They were married for 66 years until his death on October 28, 2016. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her son Jerrell Welch, granddaughter Chelbie Sinclair and brothers Paul McMichael and Elton McMichael, Jr.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Stewart Cawthon, son David Bruce Welch, son & daughter-in-law, Kirk and Tina Welch, daughter-in-law Karen Welch, seven grandchildren; Taft and Stephanie Daniel, Kayle and Hailab Habtom, Stephanie Hawkins, Rachel & George Campbell, Eric Welch, Andrea Welch and Chance Daniel ten great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, sisters and brothers-in-law; Betty & Joe Evans, Linda & Tommy Castleberry, sister Patsy Davis her brother Olin McMichael and also several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services for Mrs. Mildred Laverne McMichael Welch will be Saturday September 21, 2024, at 11 AM in Jackson City Cemetery. Rev. Keith Joseph will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Friday evening September 20 from 6 until 8 PM.
