Nellie Williams Obituary

Nellie Ruth Harris Williams, age 86, peacefully passed away in her sleep early Tuesday morning February 23, 2021. She was born Tuesday December 18, 1934 in Jackson to the late Marvin and Elizabeth Smith Harris. She was the wife of the late Carlton Talmadge Williams, Sr. who passed away in October of 2012.

Mrs. Williams was affectionately known as “Mama 2” to her grandchildren and many “adopted” children. She adored her family and she loved cooking for them. She enjoyed growing flowers, getting dressed up and talking about Jesus to her friends and family. Mama said “always remember to be kind and compassionate, because you could be talking to an Angel.” She loved reading the Bible, her favorite Bible verse was Hebrews chapter13, verse 2 from the King James Version, it reads, “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unaware.” She was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church for most of her life.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters and sons in law; Susan & Ted Strickland, Lee & Richard Williams, Becky Jackson, Eve Williams & Travis and son in law Andy Craig, grandchildren; Niki & Kevin Hill, Kelly Raney, Seth & Kyna Strickland, Will Strickland, Josh Craig & Mani, Jay Sanders, Charidy & Clay McWilliams, Reagan Jackson, Sydney Jackson, Troy Allen, Titus Dotson, Jessica Williams, Jared Williams, Hunter & Megan Williams, great grandchildren, Hannah, Kaleb, Ali, Weston, Keaton, Levi, Gerrica, Mark and Abby, great-great grandson, Brantley. In addition to her parents and her husband Nellie Ruth is also preceded in death by her sons; Carlton (Bubba) Williams, Jr. and Timothy (Tim) Williams, daughter; Debbye Craig, and her grandson, Sean Craig and her sister, Shelby Harris. 

Graveside services for Nellie Ruth Harris Williams (Mama 2) will be Thursday, February 25, 2021 at 2:30 PM in the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery, Pastor Mike Saffels will officiate. The family request that those attending the Service observe social distancing in accordance with the CDC Guidelines.
