Peggy Elizabeth McElheney Knowles, age 85, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Piedmont Newton Hospital. Peggy was born Wednesday, February 15, 1939, in Jackson to the late Henry and Alma McElheney. She graduated Jackson High School Class of 1957 where she was a standout basketball player. Peggy was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson where she had been employed, on two separate occasions as the Church secretary, she had also been employed at McIntosh State Bank before her retirement. Her favorite hobbies include crocheting, yardwork, walking and she dearly loved spending time with her family reminiscing of stories from long ago.
Peggy and her late husband, Artis Clinton Knowles were married for 49 years at the time of his death in June of 2008. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Amanda & Wesley Walker of Forsyth, 2 grandsons; Tyler Walker and Brady Walker and 2 great-grandchildren; Gray Walker and Yuri Cash Walker, one sister; Cathy Norsworthy of Jackson along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brother, Henry McElhaney.
Funeral services for Peggy Elizabeth McElheney Knowles, will be held Friday, December 6, 2024, at 11 AM in the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, Rev. Robert Henderson and Rev. Darryl Woodruff will officiate. Entombment will follow the Service in the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum located in the Jackson City Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family Thursday evening, December 5, between 6 & 8 PM at the Funeral Home or at other times at the residence of Mandy & Wesley Walker, 140 Andrews Ct, Forsyth, GA 31029
