Rev. “Gene” Maddox was born January 19, 1936, in Jackson/Butts County, GA. He was a member of Cedar Rock Church, in Jackson, GA. Rev. Maddox was a Minister of the Gospel and pastored several churches over 65 years. These churches included Brooks Baptist Church, Brooks, GA. Pine Grove Baptist Church, Fayetteville, GA, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Senoia, GA, New Hope Baptist Church, Pike County, GA., Antioch Baptist Church, College Park, GA, First Baptist Church, Jenkinsburg, GA, Providence Baptist Church, Williamson, GA, The Church on the Rock, Jenkinsburg, GA and Cedar Rock Church, Jackson, GA. Rev. Maddox worked as a bi-vocational minister as a carpenter and school bus driver.
Rev. Maddox was preceded in death by his parents, Wilma (Chuck) and Emma Jewell Padgett Maddox of Griffin, GA; brother, James (Bogan) Maddox, sister, JoAnn Maddox Knowles Pitts both of Griffin, GA; and a son, David Wayne Maddox, Jackson, GA. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carolyn Adams Maddox of Jackson, GA, sister, Joyce Maddox Russel Hasche of Jackson, GA, sister-in-law, Jeannette Adams Garrison of Lawrenceville, GA, son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Karen Maddox, of Neptune Beach, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and James (Chip) Nasworthy, Jackson, GA, and daughter-in-law Elaine Maddox of Jackson, GA. Grandchildren are April and Nathan Anderson, Jessica and Ben Bolton, Ashley and Craig Barrington, Amy and Alan Klein, Daniel Nasworthy, Keaton Maddox, Heather Maddox, Bobby and Samantha O’Neal and Billy O’Neal and thirteen great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life for Rev. Gene Maddox will be Friday, August 11, 2017 at 11:00AM in the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home in Jackson with Pastor Greg Johns officiating. Interment will be in the Jackson City Cemetery.
