Richard Earl “Rick” Murphree, age 72, of Jackson, Georgia, passed away on April 17, 2026, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
Rick was born on April 1, 1954, in Bethesda, Maryland, and he lived a life marked by kindness, hard work, and a warm spirit that touched the lives of many. He was the son of the late Frances McMichael Murphree and Dan Earl Murphree. Rick was known by those who loved him as a loving and friendly man, someone who could make others feel welcome and at ease. His presence brought comfort and familiarity to family, friends, and neighbors alike.
Rick graduated from Jackson High School with the Class of 1974, and he carried the values of community with him throughout his life. He built his working life as a self-employed plumber, a trade that reflected his practical nature, his strong work ethic, and his willingness to help others. Through his work, he served many people with reliability and skill, and he earned the respect of those who knew him professionally and personally.
Faith was an important part of Rick’s life, and he was a member of Rise Above Ministry Church in Jackson. He valued fellowship and the encouragement of his church family, and he appreciated being part of a congregation that shared in worship, support, and community. His life reflected a steady devotion to the people and places that mattered most to him.
Rick also enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life meaningful. He had an interest in the Butts County Republican Party and followed local civic life with care. He enjoyed smoking and bar-b-queuing meat, and he took pride in the time and attention that went into preparing a good meal. He also enjoyed music festivals and especially appreciated Mississippi Delta Blues, a style of music that spoke to his love of tradition, rhythm, and soul. These interests were part of the personality that made Rick memorable and easy to know.
He is survived by his sister, Ellen Murphree of Jackson, and by many cousins who will cherish his memory. His family and friends will remember him for the steady presence he brought into their lives and for the genuine affection he showed to those around him.
