Steve Mills Jones

Steve Mills Jones, age 79, of Jackson, GA passed away Tuesday evening, June 13, 2017 at his residence with his loving family at his side. He was born December 11, 1937 in Butts County son of the late Jesse Bailey Jones and Martha Jane Mills Jones. He was a 1955 graduate of Jackson High School and the University of Georgia in 1962. Steve was employed by Norfolk Southern Railroad for over forty years. He was last employed as an engineer at Georgia Power’s Plant Sherer in Monroe County for ten years and worked at Stone Mountain Park for two years. He had been in the United States Army Reserves. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, the Elks Club and the Moose Club.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Carol Roper Jones, children, Jeff and Joy Jones, Mike Jones, Mitzie Zilkowski, Bradley Wheeler and Brannon Wheeler; brother and sister, Bill and Martha Jones, sisters, Barbara Crumbley and Betty Dover; grandchildren, Kevin Jones, Laura Jones, Bailey Zilkowski, Owen Zilkowski, Charles Wheeler, Nicholas Wheeler and Hayley Wheeler. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Russell Crumbley and Ben Hill Dover.

Funeral services for Steve Mills Jones will be held Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 11:00AM in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Dr. Benny Tate and Dr. Ed Hoard will officiate with interment in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6:00PM till 8:00PM.
