Thomas Wood, T. W. Leverrett, Sr., age 98, of Jackson, GA passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, May 4, 2018. He was a life-long resident of Butts County, born September 5, 1919 son of the late William Thomas Leverrett and Flora Cook Leverrett. He was husband of the late Saralu Grant Leverrett who passed away several years ago.
Mr. Leverrett served in the Pacific during WWII in the tank division. He was a very active civic and community leader. He served on the Butts County Board of Education. He was Produce Supervisor for Colonial Stores when they were in Jackson. He was a farmer and loved gardening. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where he was very active in church work.
Survivors include his children, Thomas Wood Leverrett, Jr. (Skippy) and Elaine, Jennifer and Danny Akers, Sandra Cheek, Peggy and Tim Gregg, Kathy and Kim Ruff, Brother,,Donny and Rosemary Leverrett, sister, Jeanette Briscoe; Eight Grandchildren, Twelve Great Grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services for T. W. Leverrett, Sr. will be Sunday, May 6, 2018 at 3:00PM at the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with visitation at the church from 1:00 – 3:00PM. Rev. Mike Saffels will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Those desiring may make a memorial donation to the Mt. Vernon Cemetery Fund, P. O. Box 295, Jackson, GA 30233.
