Mr. Warren Francis “Whitey” Smith, Sr., age 92, passed away Early Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Westbury Medical Care & Rehab Center of Jackson, where he had resided since March of 2020. Whitey was a lifelong resident of Butts County he was born in Jackson on Wednesday, August 12, 1931, to the late Inman C. and Gladys O’Neal Smith. He graduated Jackson High School and began a career with the State of Georgia as a Game Warden then later at the Georgia Experiment Station before settling into his love of farming until his health forced his retirement. Whitey loved the great outdoors, when he wasn’t farming, he could be found hunting, fishing or gardening.
He is survived by; two sons and daughters in law: Warren Jr. (Mickey) & Peggy Smith, Troy & Onise Smith; grandchildren: Robert Smith, Amanda Smith, Hannah Smith, Chelsea & Kevin Spence, Jennifer & Trent Anderson, Ken Rivers, great-grandchildren: Avalyn Smith, K.Z. Anderson, Ayden Rivers and one brother; Roland Smith. Whitey was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Leila Belle Pelt Smith, who passed away on March 22, 2020. He is also preceded in death by his sister and brother in-law Louise and Fred Cook and his sister in-law Vivian Smith.
Funeral Services for Mr. Warren Francis “Whitey” Smith, Sr. will be held Monday, October 16, 2023, in the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home of Jackson at 2 PM, burial will follow in the Stark United Methodist Church Cemetery. Dr. Ed Hoard will officiate. The Family will receive friends Sunday, October 15, from 6 until 8 PM at the Funeral Home.
