William Lawrence “Cotton” Vaughn, age 86, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Westbury Medical Care Home in Jackson. He was born January 29, 1929 in Butts County son of the late Ira Lee and Bessie Mae Smith Vaughn. Cotton served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict where he received the Purple Heart Medal and several others . He was Fire Chief for the City of Jackson for over 30 years, Jackson’s longest serving Chief. He was a faithful member of the Jackson United Methodist Church. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Mike Vaughn, his special companion, Pat Polk, brothers and sisters, Lindsey Vaughn, Bernice Vaughn Grant, Annie Ruth Vaughn, Watson Vaughn and Janie Vaughn Carver. Survivors include his sister, Sara Vaughn Hamlin and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for William Lawrence “Cotton” Vaughn will be Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 1:00PM in the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home in Jackson. Dr. Ed Hoard will officiate with interment in the Jackson City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 – 8 PM at the funeral home.
